Ministry that affirms racial identity, self-concept and community empowerment can bring about the transformation of African-American United Methodist churches.  The project outlined was a study of some of the themes of Afrocentric spirituality and implementation of those themes in programs of ministry. Two projects, a rite of passage program for boys and a convocation-type event, were developed and evaluated.
