On the website the participants studied and discussed particular passages of scripture. The content of those scriptural discussions was then used to formulate sermons. The author employed a phenomenological method of research to discuss the caring interactions between the preacher and the bereaved. It examined the human phenomenon of grief and loss and emphasized the intentionality of the funeral sermon and pastoral care to deal with the phenomenon of the death of a loved one. This project draws insights from contemporary Unitarian Universalist theology to articulate a Unitarian Universalist homiletic. This theology of preaching suggests that our preaching should invite and provoke listeners into participation, and through that participation, transcendence. The project includes sections on conversational preaching (McClure, Rose), process-theology preaching (Allen, Suchocki, Blosser), textual preaching for Unitarian Universalists, worship, preaching as liberation (Smith), and the preacher's authority and autobiography.  Implications for practice and pedagogy are suggested. The preacher needs to analyze the ministerial context and invite the congregation to share their concerns, interests and questions about preaching. It suggests that the preacher should withdraw his/her controlling power over the congregation so that the laity can work together with the preacher by sharing the ministry, including preaching. The structure of the doctrine of entire sanctification, which focuses on personal experience, is too grounded in the past experiences of others.  This leaves the preacher to try and bring others into a foreign experience or convince them they really have had the experience the preacher is referring to.  This thesis will provide a fresh metaphor for understanding the doctrine of entire sanctification along with two hermeneutical approaches that will be pivotal for the preacher of doctrine.
