Six authors are evaluated according to the contribution of each to the following themes: transcendence as found in T S Eliot and Albert Camus, alienation as revealed in Eugene O'Neill and Dostoyevsky, and human redemption as envisioned by Ignazio Silone and Georges Bernanos.  The dissertation contends that each author has unique contributions to bring to Christian thought.
