A closer look at relevant passages in the scripture shows that the validity of such a concept is questionable. A biblical theology of marital oneness is developed that shows God's original intent for a married couple was to procreate and have dominion over the earth together as equal partners. Hierarchy in marriage as seen in many marriages throughout history is a result of the fallen condition of humankind, not the original blue print for marriage as designed by God.
