In accepting the third step the alcoholic states that he or she has made a decision 'to turn my life and will over to the care of God as I understand Him.'  The author tested the alcoholics with Gorsuch's Adjective Check List and Justice's Family and God Survey.  The data revealed that fourteen alcoholics out of the eighty-three tested had harsh God-images.
