He designed research to ascertain those needs and expectations and to find any differences between institutional and non-institutional members.  A review of homiletical literature brought to light methods that preachers can use to become aware of the perspectives and felt needs the congregation brings to the preaching event.  The methods of congregational analysis were applied to the Newbury Park Church.  Information from questionnaires, interviews and sermon groups informed the preparation of eight sermons from Luke which were presented during December 1985 to January 1986.  Feedback then was elicited from the congregation.
