Active listening, articulating personal needs, triangulation, and four ego defenses, drawn primarily from Virginia Satir and Murray Bowen's ideas, were explored through verbal presentations, skits, and discussions.  As a result, the participants were better able to identify potential problem patterns of communication.  They were also able to successfully apply this learning to their marriages one month later.
