Specifically, this mentoring was geared to four components of spiritual well-being: spiritual development/formation, physical fitness, intellectual fitness, and emotional/relational fitness. This research was a pilot test of a model that may be used in future leadership development. The theological foundations include the ministry of the laity, two kingdoms, priesthood of all believers, the church, and the role of the laity in the public world. Theoretical foundations include deontology, utilitarianism, absolutism, relativism, Michael Rion's framework from The Responsible Manager, and systems theory.
