The number who actually become involved and active members is a small percentage of the visitors who come each Sunday morning. The main consideration is not the number of visitors, but the number of regular attendees who choose involvement and membership or leaving the church. Visitors will continue to come to see what the church might hold for their particular needs and interests. However, assimilation does or does not occur most commonly among those who have begun regular attendance and seek either to deeper in their involvement or turn back and perhaps leave. Specially adapted questionnaires and interview instruments yielded results that are recorded and analyzed in the course of this study. Suggestions are made as to steps how church leaders might take to incorporate and assimilate individuals into service, ministry, and greater membership involvement.
