While the emotional pain and trauma of divorce make many pastors reluctant to preach about it, Jesus makes clear God's intent for marriage as a lifelong covenant of fidelity. Lutherans properly approach divorce from the perspective of an 'evangelical ethic,' demanding a proper balance of Law and Gospel. Any sermon on divorce should be specific, biblically honest, and accessible.
