This is attested to by two surveys conducted among alumni pastors and students of Singapore Bible College. To address this challenge, a homiletics curriculum on expository preaching is developed to equip students at Singapore Bible College. An effective expository sermon displays four characteristics: (1) true to Authorial intent, (2) clear, (3) relevant, and (4) interesting. In formulating the curriculum, the thesis takes into account the philosophy of expositoty preaching, as well as the broader subjects on the teaching of homiletics and the challenges that confront the teacher in Asia. The thesis proposes contextualized education and methodologies that take into account the cultural characteristics and cognitive learning processes of the Asian student. It looks at the prevailing struggles of integrating academics and ministry within a seminary setting, and offers suggestions for the teaching of homiletics as an integral part of theological education.
