The author researched the process involved in the metamorphosis of the biblical Satan between the Old and New Testaments. She concluded that religious syncretism, the popularity of Hellenism, and Jewish apocalyptic literature, helped to distinguish Satan as an independent, supernatural adversary of God. The New Testament Satan acts as an adversary to Jesus.
