Stage One (Attending) examines literature concerning tradition (the doctrine of Imago Dei), experience (the feminist theology of Letty Russell), and culture (the recent work on codependency).  Stage Two (Asserting) posits a shift in the understanding of the doctrine of Imago Dei and develops a theology of self-esteem; and, Stage Three (Acting) describes a thirty-week course designed and tested as a means of systemtic intervention in an Episcopal congregation. The results of this intervention are measured as pre- and posttests by using the Secord-Jourard Self Cathexis Scale and the Gecas 12-item Semantic Differential Scale (both highly reliable and valid instruments).
