Traditional and defensive church models have failed, with the result that religion is privatized and domesticated, and most people are nominal or notional Christians.  An examination of 'modern' Western culture and 'post-modernity' follows the work of Lesslie Newbigin and the Gospel and Culture Networks.  The missionary congregation is found to be a viable model for multicultural churches.
