The author first examines the religious and cultural situation in Northeastern Mexico. Then a review of ethnographic and hermeneutic literature describe currents that lie behind ethnographic and biblical interpretation. Both disciplines are driven by worldviews and these worldviews can interfere with the understanding the natives' point of view. The author concludes that the two disciplines are similar, but differences in the precision are because one is a message while the other deals with general themes.
