The local congregation, which once enjoyed a position of social, moral and ethical influence upon quotidian societal decision-making, has become a marginal (peripheral) and often an ignored participant. In what appears as an oscillating wave of interest/disinterest, the greatest challenge for the church today has become the ability to recognize these changes and to respond missionally as the people of God.
