Could it be that some church members were giftless and therefore incapable of rendering spiritual service? Did some members possess more than one spiritual gift while others possessed none? Would participants who could not identify their spiritual gifts at the outset of a learning experience be able to identify them afterwards? What should the nature and outline of such a course of study be? To what extent should the biblical materials on spiritual gifts be covered? Are there any indicators from one’s personality that might help him or her discern spiritual gifts? How important are they in the lift of the church? And how do they relate to the fruit of the Holy Spirit and direct commands of scripture? These questions and others prompted the author to design a course focused on the spiritual discernment process.
