This has not enhanced communal endeavors.  The author suggests that each category alone is insufficient.  Both approaches are needed to further the ideal of a naturally balanced life, personally and communally.  Grounding contemplation/action in a process that is dynamically and fundamentally part of the human condition, the author offers insights into activist, Dorothy Day, and monastic, Thomas Merton.
