Together with a new emphasis on elders as spiritual leaders, this change fosters a renewed interest in the preparation and care of congregational leaders. This project proposes a new vision for elder selection and training, and retention that emphasizes the spiritual and perennial nature of the call to ordination as Ruling Elder. It incorporates spiritual discernment and sabbath-keeping as essential elements, including a redefining of the 'college of elders'.
