Biblical narratives are stories and should be read as literature.  The concerns of literary analysis are the concerns of biblical narrative interpretation.  The practicum/project has established that the narrative approach is preferred to make the Scripture 'live' and become a part of one's relationship with God.  However, the historical-critical approach can be used in isolation from the other.  The decision an interpreter must make is which approach is primary.
