The spiritual development of individual members of a rural Presbyterian congregation and the spiritual enrichment of the community of faith at large, as observed by the pastor, is explored utilizing the heuristic model of an apple orchard.  The comparison of the nurture of trees and enrichment of individuals and congregation employs the praxis circle of practical theology as delineated by James Poling and Donald Miller. In doing so the praxis circle begins with the experience of the individuals, describes and evaluates the two opposing theologies within the congregation, seeks to find correlation of creation-centered theology and Reformed theology in secular disciplines, ecclesiastical mandates, and denominational documents, which gives rise to new guidelines and practices for the faith community and its members.
