Twenty women representing member, fellow and diplomate levels of AAPC were interviewed about the most and least facilitative aspects of their supervisory experiences with male supervisors.  Interviewees cited the following factors as most supportive of their learning: a climate of safety, realistic validation of competence, awareness of gender issues, ethical sensitivity and appreciation of the ways women learn.  Interviewees stated that the least facilitative aspects were: abuses of power, theoretical rigidity, arrogance and supervisory invasiveness.
