This need is specifically manifested in regards to the nature and function of lay elders.  Through historical and biblical research the author developed a basis for designing educational and guidance resources to be used in aiding lay elders to serve effectively in their congregation.  The result is a twelve-month study guide (leader's and learner's) for education in the nature and duties of lay elders and a calling guide to aid lay elders in making calls in specific situations which may relate to the congregational office.
