To accomplish this task, this investigation uses a detailed literature review to provide a rationale and a theological context for churches to serve as a conduit for economic empowerment. Additionally, it presents and analyzes secondary data from the independent sector to determine the current level of economic programs which are being organized by churches today.  A case analysis of the economic empowerment techniques used by churches involved in the Industrial Areas Foundation is also introduced.  Thirdly, interviews with pastors of several churches with economic assistance/empowerment programs are included.
