Previous SDA evangelism in Jamaica has successfully reached poor and working people, but it has been ineffective in contacting and attracting the upper classes. The project suggests that 'intentional ministries'--any social ministry, instrument, or program designed to make a deliberate impact within the local community--can be used to contact upper-class people and make personal evangelism possible. Employing anthropological and biblical perspectives, this project analyzes four religious beliefs and practices that prevent acceptance of Christianity among Ashantis, finding that a major problem is the traditional Ashanti concept of God as remote, unapproachable, and unavailable in times of crisis.
