The author researched the needs through training sessions, surveys, focus groups, and interviews with four experts. The result is the Ministry of Hope and Consolation Funeral Vigil Formation Program that includes a presenter guide, a participant booklet, discernment surveys, and a six-session video-assisted resource. In chapter three he introduces the practice of Lectio Divina. Drawing conclusions from these, the author holds that preachers can compose powerful mystagogical preaching by combining life experience, Sacred Scripture, and elements of the liturgy (ritual words, symbols, or actions) in the Easter Season and throughout the Church Year. The author also provides a methodology for preparing a mystagogical homily. The project summarizes and analyzes official documents issued in 1963-1994, and then presents principles, patterns, and behaviors of human communication. From this research the project derives a taxonomy of preaching abilities undergirded by Alverno College's approach to assessment, including a sophisticated listener-response instrument.
