The author examined the ways in which engagement with Zen can enrich Christian preaching by offering contemplative tools that form preachers not merely as transmitters of sacred information but as embodied witnesses of grace who have experienced the Good News that they preach. This study employed qualitative research to examine the reflections of Christians who have assimilated Zen practice into their Christian lives. The research addresses the design, creation, and feedback of the participants. The pilot demonstrated that a format of a preaching retreat day, formation period, and preaching retreat day was able to perpetuate participation but not facilitation. The results were then integrated into a suggested curriculum modification for Catholic Universities offering masters degrees as part of diaconal formation. The author tested this approach with a cohort of twelve Catholic pastoral ministers, lay and ordained. It gives passion, wisdom, improved skills, and new understanding to the preaching event, the preacher, and the community.
