This particular retreat was held in western North Carolina during the fall of 2002. There were twenty-nine participants and fifteen staff who attended the retreat.  There was a daily rhythm established of proper nutrition, educational elements, worship times, play, and small group dynamics.  The participants learned about the importance of diet, exercise and mental health in living with a terminal disease.  They also learned about the importance of story, personal and sacred.  The participants had opportunities to experience God's love through accepting attitudes, unconditional love and agape gifts.  Relationship building activities were conveyed through small group dynamics and community activities in the craft area. Three goals were set up, measured and achieved during this retreat.  Participants experienced reduced anxiety. Participants had an enriched experience of their belovedness in God.  Participants gave voice to their spiritual deepening.  There were positive changes recorded in each of these assessed goals. Twelve adult participants completed the twelve-week leadership training program that was primarily developed from the meta-model.  A battery of instruments was used to assess the effectiveness of the program and skills acquired by the participants. Emphasis is given to visual and kinesthetic methods which help students remember, apply, and value the teachings of the New Testament in an effort to combat biblical illiteracy. Five lessons were presented to twenty-two teachers and students in the Bukavu Pastor's School.  An evaluation instrument was given to assess their responses to the model. Treatment included cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and magazine photo collage.  Beck Depression Inventory and David Burns' pre- and post-session evaluations were employed.  Results were inconclusive based on small group (five women started, four finished, three completed results) and preliminary nature of the study, but suggest addition of spiritual guidance may help reduce depression as it increases relationship with God.  Other factors contributed highly to results. It argues that such a change is possible through intensive guided meditations and group discussions over a thirty-day period.  It demonstrates that such change is lasting and supports the affirmation that such a core-value change can affect the ministry of the whole congregation. The workshop tested for and taught about spiritual gifts and personality type. The goal is for professional clergy to identify, mentor and elevate women and men through a clergy apprenticeship and into transformational leadership. A panel of experienced clergy evaluated the model. The results indicated that the Mentoring Model was most successful as a catalyst for structuring the process. The results also indicate the presence of a prevailing impact on the Kingdom of God. The project design consisted of interviews with pastors of older adults, a lecture-training series of encouragers to assist older adults with their transition, and feed back from encouragers and older adults about the transition ministry.
