Acting as consultant to a church's building committee, the project composes a theology of worship and conducts library research in the history of sanctuary space as determined by the theology and liturgy of particular eras of church history. In a Reformed understanding the relation between daily prayer and the Lord's Day service is strengthened by the biblical invitation to pray without ceasing; by the Lord's Prayer, which demonstrates that private prayers are never merely individual; and by a relationship with Jesus through his resurrection. The presider's role is of crucial importance.  Presiding poorly can impede the congregation's encounter with God. The purpose of the project is to inform the reader of the process whereby one small town ministerial association struggled to understand its ministry, especially in shared worship.
