In examining the sermons of the apostle Paul, it was evident that he significantly contextualized his message to his various audiences, demonstrating for all preachers the need to engage in not only good exegesis of the text but in good exegesis of the audience. The researcher attempted to gain a better understanding of the culture of the community surrounding his church in Andover, Minnesota and ways to communicate clearly to this culture. The primary tool used was a survey conducted at a community festival on church property. The survey was designed to measure the level of biblical knowledge of the participants and also to investigate the relationship between church attendance and the demonstrated levels of biblical knowledge. The assumption of the researcher was that preachers often assume their congregations know more than they do, and this assumption was proven to hold merit. Finally, in assessing the above information, a set of homiletical principles were developed that embrace both a commitment to biblical preaching and an awareness of the realities of post-church American culture. One of the conclusions of the author is that a neglected aspect of homiletics is our need to wrestle through the striking differences between oral and written communication styles. The preacher’s preparation must keep these dynamics in mind if he/she hopes to communicate the timeless truths of the Bible to a time-bound audience."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fccbc3d7-874c-42e3-8a20-621b107c56c7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132915342508032,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:10:58.631Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:22:48Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:51:12Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5ca22a5e-1a46-4dea-afbf-ed1bcc311367","accessControl_ssim":["e46139ac-9da9-4da2-9c35-69564692fb93"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Imparting biblical theology cross-culturally for transformation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:22:47Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:51:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["77a1dfec-4338-416d-b89e-e57de77869c9"],"hasLease_ssim":["fbb5f1c4-f57b-43c7-b4b5-1c594e012bcc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"advisor_tesim":["Timothy Alan McIntosh"],"year_tesim":["2016"],"location_tesim":["New South Wales--Sydney"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Reid"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"subject_tesim":["Christianity and culture","Bible","Theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Sydney Evalgelicals are known for their Biblical Theology and this approach has been an essential part of the Preliminary Theological Certificate which has been taught overseas in over 35 countries. The project informs the discipline of pastoral leadership concerning recognition of the rurban intercultural collision, assessment of its impact, and suggests a model for an effective response."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fccbc3d7-874c-42e3-8a20-621b107c56c7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132991282479104,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:12:11.054Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:30:49Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:58:35Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a6df855e-cce0-408c-85cf-bdf87f180a6b","accessControl_ssim":["a91e1180-e967-4a8c-b10f-6c83a7a1f831"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Servant leadership across distance and cultures: a new paradigm for 21st century global leaders"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:30:48Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:58:35Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3e0f76ce-961a-4ced-ad7e-9db1c843df5f"],"hasLease_ssim":["1294a08c-e493-456b-bb8f-b8efe24e12b5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"advisor_tesim":["Jeffrey A Matteson"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ken L Cochrum"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"subject_tesim":["Christianity and culture","Servant leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Campus Crusade for Christ International","Globalization--Religious aspects"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["Servant leadership across distance and cultures: a new paradigm for twenty-first century global leaders"],"abstract_tesim":["The researcher addressed the lack of a distance leadership paradigm to prepare servant leaders to lead well across distance and cultures within Campus Crusade for Christ's global level of leadership.
