Spiritual practices that re-orient people within the larger missio dei were investigated in a nine-month research study which utilized a mixed method approach of phenomenological and empirical methodologies. The research identified transformational practices that later came to be defined as the spiritual discipline of Intentional Missional Engagement. Data was collected from interviews of twenty pastors.  Content analysis was then applied to the interviews to evaluate surface patterns, shared experiences, uniquenesses, etc.  Some problem areas such as professional versus personal, schedule demands, personality factors, and a mechancial approach to spiritual disciplines are discussed.
