It understands this tradition of evangelism to be the convergence of two historical traditions. The first is formal structured evangelistic activity of northern antebellum Black churches. The second tradition is informal, spontaneous activity which has its roots in the southern slave plantations of the so-called 'invisible' institutions. The project elucidates the African-influenced structures and methodologies of this natural, unintentional tradition of evangelism to enable the contemporary Black church in particular and the larger church in general to be more intentional in its practice of evangelism."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Boston University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["2d58bd09-76d0-4970-b257-d55229e0173e"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716070064390144,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:56:32.844Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:24:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:59:01Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a9dd3baa-9cfa-4805-88c4-a4ced193f3cb","accessControl_ssim":["91d7dd6b-9a19-4243-909e-b4d342c90978"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Historical and cultural significance of ordination as power and control within dually aligned African American Baptist Churches in Massachusetts"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T20:24:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:02:45Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["80936dda-1eb9-46a7-a84f-7df08c4494c6"],"hasLease_ssim":["53fa8170-f80e-46c5-8be0-0a55ee8109a4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Bryan P Stone"],"year_tesim":["2001"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gregory E Thomas"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["National Baptist Convention of the United States of America","American Baptist Convention","African American churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to explore the black Baptist association arrangement known as dual alignment.
