Deacons need to be trained and equipped for ministry through a diaconate that is seen as the worshipping and serving core of the church. The koinonia of the diaconate through their prayer life, study, and learning together; and their commitment to the ministry of Jesus Christ in the church and through their own lives will begin a process of renewal for the church. They will, in effect, become salt, light, and leaven for the church. These pages describe renewal that is faithful to the biblical purpose of the church, making disciples of all peoples.  This calls for the development of a truly inclusive congregation in which new people are touched (mission), incorporated (recruitment), and nurtured (small group life) until the gospel becomes a compelling reality in people's lives (spiritual development) and in their corporate life within their urban context (prophetic witness).
