An 'interpretative context' is present whenever persons attempt to communicate.  Therefore, preaching is affected by the interpretative contexts of both preacher and hearer. A 'gap' may exist that can impede communication between persons whose interpretative contexts are sufficiently different.  This project examined the contextual nature of preaching.  Study of biblical texts, prior to their development in sermons, afforded pastors and congregations opportunity to become aware of contextual gaps.  A sermon review process allowed for evaluation of the gap-bridging process. Stagnancy here means failure of marriage partners to experience growth through the marriage experience.  Couples will change and grow as they learn concepts of family systems theory.  The church must be an organism in society preventing mental and emotional illness. The report outlines biblical and theological bases for the concept of counseling through preaching.  Methodology entailed determination of issues people wanted addressed; preparation of sermons based on those concerns and summarizing feedback received by several means.
