In many local churches the concept of lay ministry does not include participation in the area of evangelism.  It is the author's belief that the ministry of evangelism is best achieved when a local church's outreach is shared by laypersons and pastors.  The main objectives of this project are to develop and lead a workshop which will enable church members to participate in the evangelistic ministry of the local church. All persons currently holding leadership positions and persons who expressed interest in being trained as leaders were asked to participate.  A six-week course was designed to give the participants a new vision of what church leadership can mean as well as develop a better understanding of the specific tasks of leaders.  The program included didactic sessions, role play exercises, a field trip to Oklahoma City, and a planning retreat in Lamasas, Texas. This project was done as a ministry of reconciliation.  Its purpose was to get churches in the lake area to appropriate as their own a new chaplaincy program to campers on the lake.  The author experienced the chaplaincy program as a supervisor to the chaplain in the summer of 1982.
