The project includes the recruitment of the elders and their training via retreat, support groups, and a caring ministry workshop.  Through this training the elders are: acquainted with a biblical understanding of eldership as a ministerial office along with providing two views (McGarvey and Errett) of eldership from the Disciple tradition; to train the elders in various areas of ministry; to provide opportunities for the elders in the ministry of the congregation; and to commission the elders in the ministry of their choice.  The project provides opportunities for prayer and reflection upon their role in the mission and ministry of the congregation.  Drawing upon this experience, the elders engaged in training others for this caring ministry. The study involved eight learning sessions that identified the strengths which members had for a ministry of care. Individuals were trained to creatively use skills of caregiving to members and to the mission community of Bethany Christian Church in time of need.  The project also provided ways for participants who were unable to attend the sessions to become involved in caregiving. The report establishes the need along with the theological rationale for including children in worship. The project includes four stewardship workshops, four stewardship sermons, plans for a commitment Sunday, and a celebration. One specific way of congregational response is then selected. In a previous analysis of the congregation, we learned that our congregation was located in the area of Arlington which has the highest number of social problems.  We also learned that responding to human problems came out last on the scale of importance in our church life as it was perceived by our members.
