Four seminars held in the fall of 1986 were designed to explore how people age and how adult children can cope effectively with their parents in the new relationship which aging creates. The seminars included one session on understanding the aging process, another on relating to aging parents, a third on caring for aging parents and a fourth on available community resources. Clients from Denton State School attend these churches.  The chaplain at Denton State School prepares the curriculum and teaches a series of four classes at each congregation. The task force assesses the needs of single young adults, addresses those needs theologically, assesses the ability of the congregation to implement that theology, plans the organization of a single young adult ministry, and sets the plan in motion. The project was designed to train the diaconate to minister more effectively to the needs of the congregation.  The role of the deacon as minister and how he functions within our church were given special emphasis in the training sessions.  The study clarified the role of deacon through a study of pastoral care skills. The study provided the deacons with practical experience. First Christian Church of Lansing, Michigan, invited a large number of churches to provide teachers for a teacher training workshop.  First Christian Church also recruited workshop leaders from the Lansing area.  The goal of this project was to provide the quality teacher training which could only come through the cooperation of several congregations.  The training was age level based covering several important areas for the teachers. Along with one-to-one contact there are new fellowship opportunities designed to low for closer relationships to develop within small groups.
