The local congregation, which once enjoyed a position of social, moral and ethical influence upon quotidian societal decision-making, has become a marginal (peripheral) and often an ignored participant. In what appears as an oscillating wave of interest/disinterest, the greatest challenge for the church today has become the ability to recognize these changes and to respond missionally as the people of God. The project also explored the importance of the Pastor's work as a spiritual coach with individuals and intergenerational small groups. Participants positively benefited from exposure to the lives and influences of the Church Fathers and to spiritual practices such as fasting and prayer. The project motivates the continued pursuit of spiritual formation as a relational journey of faith and accountability. After conducting research into the Baptist heritage of religious freedom, the author conducted educational events in five Baptist congregations in southeastern North Carolina in which he shared part of the Baptist story in this regard. This project was designed to equip, enable, and empower the laity to be participants in the worship experience that would enhance outreach in the local church. The project was designed around actions that were translated into acts of worship: equipping and encouraging greeters, sharing a life story or personal testimony, dramatic presentations on a youth Sunday and during the celebration of the first Sunday of Advent and Thanksgiving. This project was designed to help Christians be more intentional about cultivating their marital relationships. The purpose of this project in ministry was to build biblical Christian marriages that would withstand the challenges that arise in the marital context. The research question asked was,  'If Christians are equipped by their minister for marriage enrichment, will their marriages be strengthened?' The neglect of faith formation with children in the home is widespread among Christian parents.  The research question asked was, 'if Christian parents are equipped by their minister for leading their children in family worship, will they become more confident, competent, and committed as their children's spiritual leaders?'
