Drawing on the history of the church, the course brings issues of faith into current perspective using the 'shared praxis' approach to teaching. The project produces a foundational document that may serve as a guide to new church development in western North Carolina. This resource utilized the educational theories of Thomas Groome and John Westerhoff.  The dissertation describes the situational context and problem, theology of sacraments and baptism, educational theory, basic theological and educational assumptions and methods, educational program, culminating worship service, and evaluation.  The outcome of the program was a resounding success.  The theories and design were validated. Yet, often this opportunity is missed.  In light of this concern, the author developed a small group course, which was aimed to introduce adults to a Wesleyan way of relating to God.  By using experimental theology as a model and Kurt Lewin's 'Steps of Change' as an outline, he established a dialogue between the participants' experience and theological concepts in the Wesleyan heritage.
