This project proposes that Christian laypersons could be trained to give significant support to one another in grief.  The project included attendance at a grief training workshop, research in literature of the field, and planning and leading a grief training workshop. Using a phenomenological approach and practical theological method, the author provided six in-depth case studies of women who had completed CPE supervisory training.  The author concluded that shame, sexuality and speech act as hinges on a door; i.e., they can act to either shut out or open up the way towards collegiality in ministry. Through observation and reflection, participating pastors clarified and defined their perceptions of their churches.  They interpreted their observations through stories, characterizations, reflection upon interviews and the development of metaphors. The project tested a model of pastoral leadership focused upon the roles of 'reflective guide' and 'mission initiator.' Analysis of the pastors' perceptions and definitions of ministry issues confirmed that when identity is clarified, potentials and boundaries are seen more clearly. The project documented a nine-month intervention process specifically designed for one parish.  As a result of the intervention, the council members grew in their understanding of the church's mission, the pastor acquired new ministerial skills, accountability was more evident, and the council and its commissions functioned more effectively.  This study found that collaborative ministry requires commitment and patience. Some implications for the recruitment, training and assignment of ministers are identified. It includes a critical, historical analysis of supervision within the Pentecostal context.  The author concludes that ministry supervision is undergirded by three confessional elements which legitimate Pentecostal ministry.  The three confessional elements which serve as an interpretive framework for the educational design of Pentecostal supervision are 1) supervision as covenant; 2) supervision as character; and 3) supervision as commission.
