Due to cultural and linguistic barriers, variances in child-rearing philosophies, and the negative Han (wounded feelings) of a Korean wife, such marriages face greater challenges than monocultural marriages. By clarifying and following what is promising in the marital commitment and in the new community, marital partners may develop personal contacts, integrate the move into their personal and marital goals and decrease marital stress.  The author implements Juergen Moltmann's theology of hope into a ten week program of workshops and field trips for seven couples who have moved recently. The central hypothesis of the project is that pastoral openness to anger and disillusionment are crucial to the reestablishment of contact.  The project employs three home visits and nine group sessions to investigate the depth of marital conversation, marital dynamics, developmental histories, ethical issues of family life and faith issues arising from pastoral involvement. The research notes increased capacity to communicate and to reflect on ethical issues. The goal was both to nurture the couples' maturity in faith and to enrich their marriage relationship.  Eight couples met weekly for three months. They reflected on Scripture, tradition, experience and reason as four sources of authority for Christian faith, and on the image of covenant as the central symbol of Christian marriage.
