Trading on the insights of narrative theology, and examining specifically the program of hermeneutical pastoral care as developed by Charles V. Gerkin as it came to be utilized in a parish setting, this dissertation models an interdisciplinary approach to pastoral leadership which involves all of the primary taks of ordained ministry. Of particular interest are the ways in which the dynamics of ego psychology can be applied generally to groups, and more specifically to the on-going narrative life of a faith community."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134788238704640,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:40:44.765Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:06:44Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:41:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3a6c78cb-c9a0-499a-8280-07c95b4b2415","accessControl_ssim":["0289dd41-2c8e-4f48-ba7c-7beaa3deca8c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Empowering clergy through education to be advocates against spouse abuse"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:06:43Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:49:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d0b9056b-b5a8-4ae3-98a8-7e5d90f5abe9"],"hasLease_ssim":["193dcd36-b444-4c77-b309-ed792ca5c192"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Luther E Smith","Richard Bondi"],"year_tesim":["1990"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Curtis T Walker"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Abused women","Workshops (Adult education)","Pastoral theology","Clergy--Training of"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The church has remained inactive in the movement towards the protection and self-worth of battered women. The basis for a twentieth-century hermeneutic is explored through Barth's 'Epistle to the Romans,' in which he posits that the hermeneutical key to Paul's letter is 'krisis.' Included is an exploration of Charles Gerkin's works on hermeneutics in pastoral care with theological emphasis. Crises stories from six persons and a biblical story are analyzed in group session by the methods obtained from Gerkin. The results were that most group members realized a changing of their story that helped find healing."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134940200435712,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:43:09.686Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:04:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:42:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"611db695-0b09-4388-bc0a-8e252428a41d","accessControl_ssim":["f7d12d5a-4006-40d1-9aaf-5643542a474b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The black lawyer and social justice ministry: an analysis of the role of law and religion in effecting social change"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:04:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:58:25Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["84360c00-0d01-4089-a6ed-2b812f94b5f3"],"hasLease_ssim":["3a27bb15-1319-4cdc-a7c8-01b7ab21e324"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Theodore R Weber"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lonzy F Edwards"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Social justice","Law and religion","Case method","Pastoral theology","Social structure","Social change"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Using the location of a landfill in a Black neighborhood as a case study, this project questioned the adequacy of traditional political tactics in social justice ministries and tested the thesis that law provides a viable way to minister to social structures and addressed the imbalance in political and economic power that perpetuates oppression.
