Members of these churches exhibit diverse musical preferences and appear to welcome diversity. They find hymn singing essential to worship. That the existing process impinged upon morale and subsequent ministerial development was shown.  A survey instrument was developed by which the effectiveness of the existing program was evaluated. The project was designed as a microcosm of the United Methodist connectional and itinerant ministry. It included a district superintendent as a representative of the appointed hierarchy.  These clergy-persons represented a broad spectrum of types of appointments, race, gender and age.  Their formal theological training and theological orientation represented five different seminaries.  Approximately forty hours were spent exploring, testing and attempting to experience a Christian covenant community.
