For seven weeks a group of nine young adults met with the author.  A structured agenda included sessions on: Fowler's interview questions, Thomas Groome's shared Christian praxis, and Walter Wink's transforming Bible study.  The project uses three evaluation instruments before and after the seven week period to measure positive and negative changes in the lives of the participants. Followers of Christ are called to the ministry of diakonia.  Diakonia can be fulfilled in a partnership of the local church and local welfare agencies. In a cooperative effort, the Hall County Department of Family and Children's Services join with lay volunteers who are placed in direct service to parents who physically abuse their children.  Volunteers develop trust relationships to renew self esteem, decrease social isolation and enhance capacity for coping with stress.
