The project documented a nine-month intervention process specifically designed for one parish. The program stressed the personal-relational nature of the Gospel. It focused on aiding and equipping members in a new church development to live out their Christian faith in authentic and meaningful ways as individuals and as members of a community. The project implemented in the Mountain View United Methodist Church in the Fall of 1987. It organized persons into small groups for study, sharing and reflection. During the ten week implementation period of the project, participants met to study prepared materials. Weekly sessions centered on Wesley's theology of Christian conversion and the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135042720759808,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:44:47.458Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:40:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:45:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d973d350-6c56-40eb-a7c4-a06cf9f7fbf0","accessControl_ssim":["6da6ab81-2c18-4515-a151-70a84ec6eb5b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Confirmation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:39:59Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:20:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2ea6adb4-aca6-41e1-b809-2a4ed32536a7"],"hasLease_ssim":["c9bb7d1a-3fc5-49fc-a294-808d0b03a2e9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Carl W Grubbs"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Faith development","Narrative theology","Confirmation--Methodist Church","Gennep, Arnold van, 1873-1957","Rites and ceremonies"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project is inspired by the author's belief that contemporary methods of confirmation are less than adequate. He calls for a new model of confirmation which will overcome the growing sense of dislocation felt by our youth. He develops a plan which includes a sense of personal and corporate story that is intergenerational in scope. The project uses Arnold van Gennep's theory that rites of passage follow a universal tripartite rhythm of separation, transition, and incorporation. The process must occur if a person is to make the transition from one stage of life to another. One of the more important life crises, or transitions, is the coming of age. This project unites the concepts of faith development theory and practice into a plan which facilitates the young confirmand's necessary movement through separation from childhood, transitional learning, and incorporation into the body of Christ as a new being."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135091020267521,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:45:33.520Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:39:04Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:44:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8f066b0c-9b6b-4d77-a7e2-8c4418c60479","accessControl_ssim":["18382bfa-c991-461f-ab09-271489cd700e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The role of bishop in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:39:03Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:19:29Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["22f1a79f-6aaa-4d32-b9f6-6d57fc9aece7"],"hasLease_ssim":["07a38c7d-294a-4a9d-9711-88108a653976"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gerald Stevenson Troutman"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Theology, Practical","Evangelical Lutheran Church in America","Bishops"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project confirms the thesis that there is a definite need for bishops in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. While the office of bishop is an ancient one for many churches, it is new to the Lutheran Church in America. The Lutheran Church has used this title only since 1980 in Atlanta. The thesis is confirmed through the use of three methods: historical; analytical; and practical. The project argues for maintaining the title and function of bishop in the new church for those who serve in a supervisory role with congregations and ministers. This stance is taken from a practical rather than ontological view of bishop. The Lutheran church believes that the office of bishop has a special function but not a special status. This project defines the function and justifies the status of bishop in the Lutheran Church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Candler School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["1e360310-aec8-4e88-a19a-00b4db71ef4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135002050691072,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:44:08.671Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:35:17Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:43:45Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"85ad9da3-ea0d-4d59-aeaf-05c6800784e6","accessControl_ssim":["6b941cac-6fe0-4ee4-a5b3-1042047a3528"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a theology of mission through a short-term mission experience"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:35:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:04:06Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ebb60d6e-ad2d-463c-b8c7-132145fbe83b"],"hasLease_ssim":["d7efc8c1-55bc-4cdf-9fe0-33cf04ab87d1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Candler School of Theology"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James Allen Dougherty"],"publisher_tesim":["Candler School of Theology of Emory University"],"subject_tesim":["Missions--Theory"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The short-term volunteer mission team is a pedagogical device which allows the participants to develop a more adequate theology of mission.
