The project explores current grieving practices on the reservation, Lakota cultural resources that facilitate good grieving, and the ways that Lakota people become enmeshed in their grieving. Traumatic deaths, conflicted grieving, and multiple loss complicate Lakota grieving. Using a heuristic analogy of the body, the project then analyzes three ecclesiologies emerging most clearly from both texts: hierarchical church, communal church, and pilgrim church in mission to the world.
