Through careful attention to and practice of voice, facial expressions, and body movements, a preacher can not only increase the effectiveness of their sermons, but a preacher can also find their own voice in preaching.  This conclusion was reached following two years of work on the performative aspects of preaching. Research included an investigation of acting techniques, observation of videotaped sermons, engagement with a Parish Project Group who assisted in the preparation and critique of sermons, and feedback achieved through questionnaires and group discussions. The psycho-physical nature of public performance can be described by four terms--atmosphere, connection, concentration, radiation. The author identifies a model of prophetic preaching, specifically preaching on 'prophetic oracles of judgment,' using the insights of self-psychology that leads to spiritual discrenment and transformation.  Sermons were designed to reflect and explore different positions of prophetic preaching.
