The thesis of this paper is twofold: 1) that a trained and working pastoral relations committee in a congregationally governed local church can be effective in resolving conflict between a congregation and pastor; 2) that judicatory personnel can be third-party consultants who train and work with the pastoral relations committee in collaborative intervention. The study brings together the disciplines of theology, history and applied social sciences to analyze and propose appropriate interventions into conflict.  It recognizes the particular context of a Baptist congregation and the polity of its denomination. The author researched and validated the centrality of preaching in the Baptist churches and shows that although Baptist theology of Scripture is high, it is characterized by narrowness seen in the use of favorite Scripture themes and biblical books.  He researched Baptist pulpit giants and states their method of text selection of waiting upon the Holy Spirit.
