Using a phenomenological approach, he compares and contrasts his lectionary usage within this church to both his own formulations upon proper lectionary usage and systematic usage of the Bible in worship in the early Lutheran, Reformed, and Anglican traditions.  As a theoretical base the author assumes a 'subjectivity of knowing' foundation. Based upon this foundation, the author devises a method of analysis employing an 'integrative matrix', consisting of 'perceiving', 'describing', 'conceiving', and 'communicating'. The author researched and validated the centrality of preaching in the Baptist churches and shows that although Baptist theology of Scripture is high, it is characterized by narrowness seen in the use of favorite Scripture themes and biblical books.  He researched Baptist pulpit giants and states their method of text selection of waiting upon the Holy Spirit. Education is one means of bringing about a more realistic view.  To carry out this purpose, the study uses the andragogical model of education, as delineated by Knowles, to focus on a process of reflection and action among a small group of adults from five congregations in downtown Indianapolis.  In addition to library research, the study uses questionnaires, interviews, and observation to guide the inquiry. Composition-naive exegesis stands in dialectical tension with legitimate historical-critical exegesis.  Hermeneutic--the text as subject--emerges as a result of employing these antithetical methodological exegeses.  The compositional-naive method is holistic, concentrating on the discovery of the text's Gestalt.  The method is demonstrated and the author's(s') 'manifestations' for Ephesians, Colossians and Philemon are indicated.
