As a theoretical base the author assumes a 'subjectivity of knowing' foundation. Based upon this foundation, the author devises a method of analysis employing an 'integrative matrix', consisting of 'perceiving', 'describing', 'conceiving', and 'communicating'. He researched Baptist pulpit giants and states their method of text selection of waiting upon the Holy Spirit. In addition to library research, the study uses questionnaires, interviews, and observation to guide the inquiry. The compositional-naive method is holistic, concentrating on the discovery of the text's Gestalt.
